Photographic Philosophy

Beauty, Timing and Newness. The three main words which describe who I am as a photographer. Beauty is all around us, however, as they say, it is in the eye of the beholder.  Timing is an art in itself. It can be taught, but to some it comes naturally. I have been blessed with the ability to realize the right time to capture an image. Newness is the key to interesting imagery. It keeps the creative process fresh. It is no different than what is experienced by children when they learn or see something new.

Style, Composition and Subjects. Are three descriptions to explain my methodology as a photographer. My Style is unique in that I developed it without any formal photography training. My formal training is on the processing and commercial equipment sides of 35mm and microfilm. Composition is derived from my Fine Arts background and many hours of field work searching for fossils and minerals, in areas which can be described as being akin to "trying to find the needle in the haystack". It taught me the ability to focus on small areas in a vast sea of clutter. Subjects are personal preference. I truly enjoy everything in nature, architecture, the human form, textures and color.
